The Guyana Police Force is investigating an incident involving the alleged discharge of a loaded firearm that occurred around 20:10 hrs last night (Saturday) on Sugar Cane Road in South Ruimveldt, Georgetown. The suspect, an unidentified male in a black Mercedes Benz, reportedly fired several rounds into the air.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a gathering, referred to as a ‘social,’ was taking place at the home of Richard Austin, a 69-year-old businessman. The event included several students who had recently completed their CXC examinations, invited by Austin’s 16-year-old son.
Eyewitness accounts describe a 15-year-old female student at the gathering who was seen hugging the suspect next to the parked Mercedes Benz. Shortly thereafter, the suspect entered the vehicle and drove off at a high speed. As he did, he aimed a handgun through the driver’s side window and discharged multiple rounds into the air before continuing westward until the vehicle disappeared.
Detectives processed the scene and recovered nineteen (19) 9mm spent shells. The registration number of the vehicle was not visible. When questioned, the 15-year-old female student declined to identify the male suspect.
Efforts are currently underway to locate both the suspect and the vehicle, and investigations are ongoing. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
