Bartica Man Remanded on Narcotics Possession Charge

Asif Bacchus, a 40-year-old unemployed resident of Lot 54 Fourth Avenue, Bartica, was arrested on June 23, 2025, and charged today with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The charge was filed under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10. Bacchus appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court this morning at 9:20 AM before His Worship Teriq Mohammed, where the charges were formally presented to him.

Bacchus pleaded not guilty to the charge and was subsequently remanded to prison. The case has been adjourned to August 19, 2025, for continuation.

He was apprehended during a police “Cordon and Search Operation,” where authorities discovered he was in possession of 11.6 grams of cocaine.
