Tanasha Mayers Achieves Perfect Score at National Grade Six Assessment

News Source : In a remarkable achievement, Academy of Excellence student Tanasha Mayers has secured a perfect score of 487.88 at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), making her the top performer in the country. This marks only the second time in Guyana’s history that a student has attained full marks in the exam, which covers English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science.

The 10-year-old, who aspires to be a lawyer, expressed her surprise at the announcement. “I was surprised,” Mayers said, reflecting on her historic accomplishment.

Her mother, Tiffany Daniels, shared her overwhelming joy. “I am overjoyed, I couldn’t be more proud. We worked hard—sometimes we worked past midnight. She made us proud,” Daniels stated.

Following closely behind in second place is Kalissa Haimpersaud from Huis’T Dieren Primary School, who achieved an impressive score of 487 marks.

Three students—Christian Ramsay, Michaela Sammy, and Sandhyaa Swammy—tied for third place with scores of 486.96. Michaela Sammy, a student at Stella Maris Primary School, attributed her success to her faith and support system. “It was a balance between hard work and play. I don’t believe in all those long hours,” she said.

Her mother, Debbie Sammy, expressed pride in her daughter’s achievement, stating, “We expected this because she worked really hard.” Her father, Michael Sammy, highlighted the support Michaela received from her grandfather and teacher.

Leah Hill from New Guyana School secured sixth place with 486.91 marks and expressed gratitude for her support system, saying, “I would like to thank God, my parents, my teachers, and my grandparents for praying and encouraging me.”

In seventh place are Asiyah Khan and Emma Klelawan, both scoring 486.13 marks. They were followed by nine students who each scored 486.09 marks, including Axela Vieira, Safeerah Sheriff, Katy Budhan, Chloe Daniel, Knial Williams, Sarah Defreitas, Ziyad Mohamed, Kayliah Persaud, and Roshini Seecharan.

Roshini, 11, expressed her happiness at being among the top performers and shared her aspiration to become an entrepreneur. Knial Williams described his feelings of excitement and elation, attributing his success to diligent study and practice.

A total of 17 students secured top positions in this year’s NGSA, showcasing the talent and hard work of Guyanese students.
