Region Six Celebrates Inspiring NGSA Achievements

In a heartwarming display of resilience and academic achievement, Region Six is proudly celebrating its top performers from the 2025 National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA). Among the inspiring stories emerging from the region are those of a young burn survivor and two remarkable students from the New Amsterdam Special Needs School.

One of the standout stories is that of Dwain Deputron, a boy from Morgantown, Berbice River, whose journey to success is nothing short of extraordinary. In 2021, Deputran survived a devastating boat accident that left him with third-degree burns covering 40% of his body. After the explosion of an engine, he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for critical care.

Due to the severity of his condition, Saving Hands Emergency Aid (SHEA), a U.S.-based medical charity, stepped in to coordinate his medical transfer to the United States for advanced treatment. Following multiple surgeries and specialized care abroad, Deputron returned to Guyana. Although his medical challenges affected his school attendance, he has emerged as a beacon of hope and resilience—transforming his story from survival to success in the NGSA.

In another historic achievement, two students from the New Amsterdam Special Needs School have made remarkable strides. For the first time, the school presented candidates for the NGSA, and both students surpassed expectations.

Lakram Khemraj scored an impressive 422 marks, securing a place at Berbice Educational Institute (BEI), while Afraz Hoosain earned admission to Vryman’s Erven Secondary School in New Amsterdam. Their achievements signify a major milestone for inclusive education in Guyana and demonstrate that, with the right support, every child can shine, regardless of their circumstances.

Region Six also celebrates its top 10 NGSA performers, led by Adore Blossom Felicity Barnwell of Skeldon Primary School, who achieved an exceptional score of 486.06 marks, earning a coveted spot at Queen’s College. Following closely were:

David Hariprashad, Cropper Primary: 485.18 marks

Vivek Winajajellum, Cumberland Primary: 485.09 marks

Prudence Caitlin Bhikhai, St. Therese’s Primary: 484.21 marks

Other outstanding achievers include:

Joel Mannu (484.1, Cumberland Primary)

Julian Nicolas Mohabir (484.17, St. Aloysius Primary)

Annya Ramsook (484.12, Rose Hall Estate Primary)

Nuvita Lackraj (483.39, New Market Primary)

Rounding out the top ten are Jasmin Rajnarine Persaud of Skeldon Primary with 482.37 marks and Luan Amandea Grace Medford of Port Mourant Primary with 482.33 marks, both gaining entry to The Bishops’ High.

The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Six, led by Chairman Mr. David Armogan, Vice Chairman Mr. Zamal Hussain, and Regional Executive Officer Mr. Narindra Persaud, extended heartfelt congratulations to all high achievers.

“You have made your families, schools, and this entire region proud,” stated the RDC. “Your discipline, dedication, and hard work are an inspiration to us all.”

The RDC also acknowledged the commendable efforts of all students who participated in the NGSA, emphasizing that success is not solely defined by placement in the top ten, but by the passion and persistence each student brings to their educational journey.

“We stand firmly behind every student and pledge our continued support as you transition into secondary school. We believe in your potential and look forward to the great things you will achieve,” the Council affirmed.
