Former Mayor Ubraj Narine Condemns Political Meeting at Baracara Primary School

Pt. Ubraj Narine, the former Mayor of Georgetown, took to Facebook earlier today to express his outrage over a political meeting held by Minister Zulfikar Mustapha of the PPP Government at Baracara Primary School during school hours.

Narine criticized the event, stating, “Holding a political meeting during school hours, robbing our children of precious class time, is unacceptable!” He emphasized the importance of preserving educational environments for learning.

Adding to his concerns, Narine pointed out that several children under the age of 11 were seen dressed in party T-shirts, which he described as a “blatant act of political exploitation.” He argued that these children cannot consent to such actions and labeled this behavior as “bullying,” warning that it sets a dangerous precedent in schools.

“Our children should learn, not be used,” Narine stated, urging all Guyanese to condemn the incident. He called for schools to remain safe spaces, free from political agendas, declaring, “Let schools be safe spaces — not stages for politics!”

His post has sparked a discussion about the intersection of politics and education in Guyana, with many echoing his call for protecting children’s rights and ensuring that schools remain focused on learning.
