On CARICOM Day, President Irfaan Ali extended heartfelt greetings to all Guyanese and the wider Caribbean Community, emphasizing the significance of regional unity and cooperation. In a message shared on Facebook, he highlighted the day as an opportunity to celebrate the shared history and rich cultural heritage of CARICOM nations.

President Ali reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to regional integration, stating, “This is a principled commitment from which my government will not rescind, resile, or recede.” He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts among Caribbean peoples, describing regional integration as an urgent necessity in the face of various challenges.
He noted the pressing issues confronting the region, including the increasing frequency of natural disasters, the existential threat of climate change, and the volatility of external markets. “CARICOM remains our collective shield and moral compass,” he declared, urging member states to deepen partnerships to address these daunting challenges.
The President called for a vigorous strengthening of intra-regional trade, long-term food security initiatives, and resilient energy systems. He assured that Guyana is committed to contributing to these goals through its growing food production capacities and emerging energy resources. Additionally, he emphasized the need to engage traditional partners and forge new alliances to counter economic protectionism affecting small states.
Ali also stressed the importance of safeguarding democratic traditions within CARICOM. “The strength and viability of our regional project depend on the preservation and integrity of the democratic values we hold dear,” he stated, urging member states to respect the democratic will of their citizens.
In closing, President Ali celebrated CARICOM’s legacy of unity and resilience, stating, “Let us, as one Caribbean people, move forward with unshakeable determination, clear vision, and unflinching solidarity.” He wished everyone a happy CARICOM Day, reinforcing the notion that while challenges persist, so does the strength of regional unity.
