Melissa Cylus, 36, walked out of the High Court a free woman this morning after a jury delivered a not guilty verdict in her manslaughter trial, which stemmed from the death of her reputed husband, Julian Anthony Reberio.

Reberio was found dead at their home in Soesdyke on November 13, 2018. A post-mortem examination revealed that he died from asphyxiation due to compression injuries to his neck. Cylus, who was pregnant at the time of the incident, consistently maintained her innocence, despite police claims that she had confessed to the crime.
During the trial, the defense team, represented by attorneys Yuborn Allicock and Travis Ferreira, successfully argued a no-case submission. They contended that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient evidence linking Cylus to her husband’s death and highlighted several inconsistencies in the testimonies of prosecution witnesses.
Following the defense’s arguments, the judge directed the jury to return a not guilty verdict, resulting in Cylus’s acquittal after a protracted seven-year legal ordeal. The verdict marks a significant turn for Cylus, who has faced years of legal challenges and public scrutiny.
