Deborah Williams, a 23-year-old housewife from Mabaruma Settlement, North West District, has been arrested and charged with the murder of 47-year-old Sharlim Anthony, also known as Sharlene. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Kissing Rocks access road in Mabaruma Settlement, Region One.

Williams appeared virtually before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. She was charged with murder and remanded to prison. The case has been adjourned until August 5, 2025, and she was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.
Reports indicate that Sharlim Anthony, the victim and mother-in-law of the suspect, was visiting Williams and her husband, Raj Anthony (the victim’s son). Prior to the incident, the couple had been drinking at their residence when an argument broke out, leading to Williams allegedly striking her husband on the forehead with a piece of wood, rendering him unconscious.
After being informed of the altercation, Sharlim and her husband came to investigate. Upon arrival, Sharlim approached Williams and questioned her about her son. In response, Williams allegedly attacked her mother-in-law, inflicting multiple stab wounds to her right arm and upper back with a broken beer bottle.
Sharlim Anthony and her son were assisted by relatives and community members to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital, where they were treated. Unfortunately, Sharlim succumbed to her injuries around 21:30 hrs while receiving medical care.
Following the incident, Deborah Williams was taken into custody at the Mabaruma Police Station. She has since been charged with murder and remains in custody as the investigation continues.
