We Invest in Nationhood Party Demands apology from Minister Hamilton

News

The WIN Party expresses grave concern over the recent vile and threatening remarks attributed to PPP Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton. His suggestion that political opponents may end up “either in Venezuela in a box or to the US in shackles” is alarming and unacceptable.

We demand a full and public apology from Minister Hamilton for this direct threat against our leader and presidential candidate, Azruddin Mohamed. Such statements are a blatant violation of the ERC’s Code of Conduct, which should be condemned by the Commission. Minister of Agriculture Zulfiikar Mustapha, who signed on behalf of the PPP, dismissed claims of ongoing breaches of ERC conditions, but Hamilton’s comments indicate otherwise.

This type of rhetoric reflects the PPP’s deep-seated disrespect for those who hold differing political views. We further condemn the pattern of reckless and irresponsible statements made by PPP candidates at their political meetings. Recently, another PPP candidate, Leonard Craig, made lewd and inappropriate comments at a meeting in Bath Settlement, Berbice, which is unbecoming of anyone seeking public office and undermines the democratic process.

WIN calls on PPP leadership to hold their candidates accountable to a basic standard of respect during this election period. We urge the Guyanese public to remain vigilant and call on international observers monitoring this election to take note of these threats and acts of intimidation, as they strike at the very heart of our democracy.
