OAS Deploys Electoral Observation Mission for Guyana Elections

  • News

The Organization of American States (OAS) has launched its Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) for the 2025 General and Regional Elections in Guyana, led by former Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding.

The mission includes 27 experts and observers from 18 countries, focusing on electoral organization, technology, political financing, electoral justice, and women’s participation.

Observers will monitor the Disciplined Services vote on August 22 and the main election on September 1, visiting polling stations throughout the day. Prior to the elections, the team will engage with government officials, political parties, and civil society to gather insights on the electoral process.

Following the election, the OAS/EOM will issue a Preliminary Report with observations and recommendations to enhance Guyana’s democratic processes. This marks the OAS’s seventh observation mission in the country, supported by contributions from multiple nations, including Brazil, Canada, and the U.S.
