Investigations continue into the tragic accident on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway at Loo Creek that resulted in the deaths of three people on Saturday.

Regional Division 4B Commander Wayne DeHearte confirmed on Thursday that the truck driver involved in the incident has been released from custody after being placed on station bail following the standard 72-hour detention.
“The Loo Creek accident, we are still investigating that,” Commander DeHearte stated, noting that the driver did not possess a valid truck license and that the vehicle lacked necessary reflectors at the rear, sides, and front to warn other road users.
The accident occurred around 1:30 AM on Saturday when Mario Campbell, a 26-year-old resident of Hyde Park, Timehri, was driving with his seven-year-old son and two other passengers. According to police reports, Campbell collided with a truck that was transporting wooden materials after it experienced a tire blowout and came to a stop on the highway.
Authorities indicated that Campbell was reportedly speeding at the time of the collision. Tragically, his son, Marenzo Campbell, along with 26-year-old Shelly Joseph and 25-year-old Keiron Wells, all lost their lives in the accident.
Emergency responders, assisted by public-spirited citizens, removed the unconscious victims from the vehicle and transported them to the Linden Hospital Complex. Marenzo and Keiron were pronounced dead upon arrival, while Shelly succumbed to her injuries during medical treatment.
Mario Campbell was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, including a dislocated left foot and a displaced left eye. A breathalyzer test conducted on the truck driver revealed no trace of alcohol in his system.
As investigations proceed, authorities are working to gather more information regarding the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
