Security Guard Stabbed to Death After Allegedly Abusing Female Colleague and Slapping Teen Guard

  • News

Authorities are investigating the stabbing death of 63-year-old security guard Paul Devonish, who was fatally injured following an altercation with a female colleague on Monday evening.

The suspect, 29-year-old Nicosie Clement, a guard with Sheriff Security, is in custody after confessing to stabbing Devonish during a confrontation on Barrack Street, Kingston, around 6:30 PM on August 18.

According to police reports, the incident escalated from an earlier confrontation in which Devonish allegedly verbally abused a female guard at Teleperformance in Kingston and seized her cellphone. When an 18-year-old guard intervened, urging Devonish to return the phone, he reportedly slapped the teenager twice in the face.

The young guard later informed his mother, who was nearby with Clement. Hours later, Clement accompanied the teen to retrieve his belongings when they encountered Devonish, who approached them on an electric bike. Allegedly, Devonish threatened the teen again, telling him he was lucky he had not “boxed off” his head.

Police stated that Clement confronted Devonish about his treatment of the teenager, leading to a heated exchange. Devonish reportedly challenged her, asking if she was there to represent the teen, which resulted in a physical scuffle.

During the altercation, Clement pulled a knife from her pants pocket and stabbed Devonish in the left upper thigh. He collapsed on the roadway and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Following the incident, Clement admitted to investigators that she discarded the knife in a nearby Lamaha trench before returning to her workplace and later to the teen guard’s home, where she was arrested. Police have since taken statements from several eyewitnesses as the investigation continues.
