PPP General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has dismissed the Forward Guyana Movement’s (FGM) court challenge against the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) as nonsensical.

Led by former APNU MP Amanza Walton-Desir, FGM claims GECOM excluded approved political parties from ballots in several hinterland regions for the September 1 elections. They argue this violates constitutional provisions and the Representation of the People Act.
Jagdeo countered that FGM failed to submit candidate lists for specific regions, stating, “If you don’t submit a list of candidates for the geographical constituency, how will you be on the ballot?” He noted this process has been consistent in past elections.
A local attorney also criticized the legal action as illogical, emphasizing that parties must field candidates in each region to appear on the ballot.
