Early Morning Fire Destroys Home in Andyville, Wismar; Resident Displaced

An early morning fire on Saturday, June 7, 2025, has left a man homeless after his residence was completely destroyed in Andyville, Wismar, Linden.

According to the Guyana Fire Service, the blaze was reported at approximately 5:20 AM. The single-story wooden and concrete structure, measuring 8.1 by 6.2 meters, was owned and occupied by 39-year-old Keon Parks, who has been displaced due to the incident.

Firefighters arrived promptly at 5:29 AM, with the first suppression jet in action by 5:30 AM. Two fire appliances—Water Carriers 12 and 19—responded to the scene, led by Section Leader Yaw and a team of five firefighters.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by an unattended lit mosquito coil that ignited nearby combustible materials.

The Guyana Fire Service is urging citizens to exercise caution when using mosquito coils or other open flames in their homes. Residents are reminded never to leave such items unattended and to keep them away from flammable materials.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
