Guyana’s senior women’s football team faced a challenging start in the Concacaf Women’s Qualifiers Group B, suffering a 3–1 defeat to Nicaragua.

The match began in dramatic fashion as Nicaragua’s Sheila Flores scored in the 3rd minute, putting immediate pressure on the Lady Jags. However, Guyana responded positively, leveling the score in the 18th minute thanks to a powerful header from Annalisa Vincent.
Nicaragua regained control just before halftime when Nuria Marquez found the net in the 35th minute. Early in the second half, Doriana Aguilar extended Nicaragua’s lead by scoring in the 49th minute, a goal that ultimately cemented their victory.
Despite several attempts from the Lady Jags to rally back, the score remained stagnant, concluding the match with Nicaragua securing a well-deserved win in the tournament’s opening game.
The team now looks to regroup and prepare for their upcoming matches as they seek to demonstrate resilience in the ongoing qualifying series.
