The Teaching Service Commission (TSC) has concluded its investigation into the mistreatment of an autistic student at the David Rose Special Education Needs School, resulting in the permanent removal of two teachers from the education system.

Following a disciplinary hearing, the TSC has taken the following measures:

Dismissal: One teacher involved in the incident has been formally dismissed.

Forced Retirement: The second teacher, who was nearing retirement age, has been compelled to retire early.

During the proceedings, both teachers reportedly pleaded guilty to the allegations of mistreatment. Furthermore, the investigation uncovered that both individuals had histories of multiple infractions—a concerning finding as these past issues had never been previously forwarded to the Ministry of Education for action.

In response to the scandal, which broke in late May 2026 after video footage of the abuse surfaced, the Ministry of Education has initiated several structural changes:

Enhanced Oversight: A Board of Governors has been established for the David Rose Special Education Needs School to improve accountability and increase parental representation.

Staff Training: Recommendations have been issued for specialized, mandatory training for all educators working with students who have special needs, as the investigation highlighted a significant gap in adequate teacher preparation.

Safety Protocols: The Ministry has implemented new monitoring and management systems to ensure a safe learning environment.

Education Minister Sonia Parag has emphasized that the TSC should make the findings of its probe public to maintain transparency. The family of the affected student has reportedly retained legal counsel as they pursue the matter.
