The operation, carried out at around 16:00 hrs on April 16, 2026, by ranks from Regional Division #6 acting on intelligence, led to the arrest of a 23-year-old businessman from Dukestown and a 23-year-old labourer from Springlands, Corriverton.

Officers moved to the Dukestown seawall area after reports of suspicious activity involving multiple individuals. Upon arrival, Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers observed a wooden boat in the Corentyne River carrying four unidentified male occupants, while the two suspects were spotted standing on the seawall, each holding a black box.

When officers approached and identified themselves, the two men allegedly dropped the boxes and attempted to flee. The boat simultaneously sped off along the river, evading interception. Both suspects were apprehended shortly after.

The abandoned boxes, opened in the presence of the detainees, were found to contain two black ZORAKI 9mm pistols and one round of ammunition — a find investigators say has raised concerns about potential illegal firearm trafficking in the area.

Both men were escorted to the Springlands Police Station, where the seized items have been lodged as evidence. They remain in custody as investigations continue.

Given the operation’s location along the Corentyne River — a known corridor for cross-border movement — authorities are also probing possible links to transnational criminal activity, with efforts ongoing to identify and locate the occupants of the fleeing boat. Police say further updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
