Two men have been remanded to prison following a police investigation into the recent seizure of 10 AK-47 rifles.

Gregory Persaud and Antonio Alonzo Lawrie appeared before Magistrate Rhondel Weever at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 8, 2026. The two men were jointly charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, pursuant to Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act. Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Weever denied their applications for bail, and both were remanded to prison, with the matter adjourned until July 29, 2026.
Following his appearance at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, Gregory Persaud faced a separate charge of unlawful possession of a firearm without a license. This charge, laid under Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05, was heard before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Persaud pleaded not guilty to this additional charge as well. Unlike the conspiracy case, Magistrate Bess granted Persaud bail in the sum of $400,000. As a condition of his bail, he has been ordered to report to the police every Friday. That matter is scheduled to resume on July 3, 2026.
