Kaieteur News Reports : Detectives in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are investigating the suspected murder of an unidentified man following a violent confrontation on North Road, Georgetown, early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 07:45 hours on the stretch between Alexander and Camp Streets. According to preliminary police reports, the victim — described as a male sporting dreadlocks — was standing in front of a local bar when a heated altercation broke out with another man.
The suspect, who was allegedly armed with a handgun, reportedly used the weapon to deal several blunt-force blows to the victim’s head as the confrontation escalated. Witnesses in the vicinity reported hearing a single loud explosion shortly after the physical struggle. The suspect was then observed walking away from the scene on foot, leaving the victim lying motionless on the roadway.
Emergency Medical Technicians responded to the scene, where a doctor pronounced the man dead. Crime scene investigators processed the area and recovered one .32 spent shell casing and a brown leather holster in close proximity to the body.
The Guyana Police Force confirmed that CCTV cameras positioned near the scene have been identified and that footage will be reviewed to assist in identifying the shooter.
The body of the deceased has been transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits formal identification and a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. No arrests have been made as of Sunday evening. Investigations are ongoing.
