A 23-year-old man is dead and two others were injured following a fatal accident in the early hours of Wednesday morning on the Harlem Public Road, West Coast Demerara.
Dead is Bernard North of Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, who was driving motor car PAJ 6755 at the time of the crash.
According to police, the accident occurred at approximately 01:30 hours. Initial investigations revealed that North was proceeding east along the northern side of the road at an alleged fast rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed onto the southern side of the road, and collided with the right-side front portion of motor pickup GAJ 761, which was travelling west.
The pickup was driven by a 32-year-old male of Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara, and had a 33-year-old female occupant from Bangkok, Thailand.
All three individuals sustained injuries and were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. North was pronounced dead on arrival, while the driver and occupant of the pickup were treated for their injuries.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver of the pickup revealed no trace of alcohol. CCTV footage from the area has been obtained and will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
The body of the deceased is at Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
