Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot, has issued a strong warning against corruption within the prison system, emphasizing that anyone involved in smuggling contraband will face strict legal consequences.
In a recent interview with the News Room, Elliot highlighted the Prison Service’s intensified search efforts across all facilities, which have led to the discovery of numerous improvised weapons and contraband items. “Every time we search, there is a reduction in these items,” he noted, asserting that these enhanced measures are yielding visible results.
The crackdown on contraband is not confined to inmates; Elliot reported that, over the past two years, both civilians and prison officers have been prosecuted for attempting to introduce prohibited items into the prisons.
Elliot urged the public to refrain from participating in any activities that could contribute to the contraband trade. “We have a zero-tolerance policy, I have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to corruption involving prisons or officers,” he stated.
He expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts to ensure a significant reduction of contraband within the prison system, assuring the public that the authorities are committed to maintaining security and integrity.
