New Year’s Day Joy as Second Lady Mignon Bowen-Phillips Visits Newborns and Mothers at GPHC

The New Year kicked off on a heartwarming note at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) as Mrs. Mignon Bowen-Phillips, the Second Lady of Guyana, paid a special visit to newborns and their mothers on January 1—a cherished tradition of the Office of the First Lady.

This year, five babies were born at GPHC by the time of her visit, including four girls and one boy, with the possibility of more arrivals throughout the day. Many of the mothers were first-time parents, highlighting positive maternal health outcomes, as both mothers and their newborns were reported to be in good health.

Mrs. Bowen-Phillips was accompanied on a walk-through of the maternity wards by Dr. Rambaran, Director of Medical and Professional Services, along with doctors, nurses, ward managers, and members of the GPHC healthcare team. She took the time to personally greet each mother, meet the newborns, and express appreciation for the dedication and care demonstrated by the staff during the deliveries.

During her visit, mothers received gift packages and words of encouragement from Mrs. Bowen-Phillips, which were met with heartfelt gratitude. One mother, who delivered the first baby boy of the year, shared that the moment was especially meaningful and expressed her commitment to nurturing her child in the years ahead.

The visit encapsulated the joy of new life and the spirit of celebration. As Guyana welcomed its first babies of the year, the New Year’s Day tradition once again underscored themes of compassion, care, and fresh beginnings.
