Franklin Edwards, a 53-year-old farmer from Shea Village, South Rupununi, along with his sons Romauld Edwards, 20, and Francisco Edwards, 22, have been charged with the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition without a license. The charges were filed under Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.
The trio appeared before His Worship Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Upon reading the charges, all three defendants pleaded not guilty. They were subsequently granted bail in the amount of 100,000eachforthefirearmchargeand75,000 each for the ammunition charge.
As a condition of their bail, the Edwards family is required to report to the police every Friday at 10:00 AM. The case has been adjourned until April 1, 2026, for further proceedings.
