Four Brazilian nationals from Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil—Antonio Isal Das Soura (49), Michael De Souza Martin (26), Clinton Martins Fernandes (19) and Matheus Sere Martins (20)—were arrested and charged with Illegal Entry and Illegal Mining. They appeared in court on Friday, March 27, 2026 to answer the charges.

The men appeared at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse via Zoom, where the charges were read to them. They all pleaded guilty.
Sentencing
Illegal Entry: Each defendant was fined $30,000 GYD, or six weeks’ imprisonment in default.
Illegal Mining: Each defendant was fined $30,000 GYD, or six weeks’ imprisonment in default.
In addition, the four men were ordered to depart Guyana within 24 hours.
Fifth Defendant Pleads Guilty
Meanwhile, Taiane Macedo Peixoto (33), a Brazilian national from Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil, and a cook, was also arrested and charged with Illegal Mining.
She appeared at the same court before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse via Zoom, where the charge was read to her. She pleaded guilty.
For Illegal Mining, Peixoto was fined $30,000 GYD, or six weeks’ imprisonment in default.
