Police in Regional Division 4 ‘C’ are investigating the discovery of an unidentified woman’s body found floating in a koker at Victoria, East Coast Demerara, on Tuesday afternoon.

The body was discovered at approximately 17:00 hours after an alarm was raised by persons who spotted it in the canal. Police responded and on arrival observed the body on the southern side of the first koker door. It was retrieved and examined at the scene.
The deceased appeared to be of mixed ancestry and was found in a state of decomposition. Distinguishing features noted during the examination include a heart-shaped tattoo on the right thigh and suspected fish bite marks on the left shoulder area.
The body was taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead, before being escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Anyone with information that may assist in identifying the deceased is urged to contact the nearest police station. Investigations are ongoing.
