Government Hands Over Garbage Compactor Trucks to Linden and Mahdia, Bringing National Total to 63

The Government of Guyana on Friday handed over two garbage compactor trucks to the municipalities of Linden (Region Ten) and Mahdia (Region Eight), as part of its ongoing efforts to improve solid waste management and enhance service delivery across the country.

The handing over was conducted by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration) of the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Dr. Josh Kanhai, joined by Director of Sanitation Satrohan Nauth and representatives of the respective townships.

The latest distribution brings the total number of garbage trucks handed over nationwide to 63, spread across 55 Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) and 7 municipalities.

The regional breakdown of distributions to date is as follows: Region One has received two trucks, one each for Port Kaituma and Mabaruma; Region Two has received ten; Region Three fourteen; Region Five ten; Region Six twenty-two, comprising nineteen for NDCs and three for municipalities; Region Nine two, one for an NDC and one for a municipality; Region Eight one truck for the township of Mahdia; and Region Ten one truck for the township of Linden.

The initiative forms part of the Government’s broader commitment to maintaining cleaner, healthier communities and ensuring that development is reflected in the everyday lives of citizens across all regions of Guyana.
