The Guyana Police Force has issued wanted bulletins for three men in connection with last week’s discovery of 10 high-powered AK-47 rifles in the Corentyne, Berbice area.

The three wanted men have been identified as 33-year-old Antonio Alonzo Lawrie aka “Lanzo” of Farm Village, East Bank Demerara and Crabwood Creek, Corentyne; 32-year-old Ryan Singh aka “Satan” of Parika, East Bank Essequibo; and 21-year-old Gregory Anthony Persaud of Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
The Police wanted bulletins stated that all three men are wanted for the unlawful possession of firearms, with the Force also confirming that they are all connected to last week’s discovery of 10 AK-47 rifles in the Corentyne area.
The Police were carrying out a roadblock operation when the driver of a car sped away from the scene after being approached by the Police. The Police said while the driver made good his escape from the roadblock, he was later arrested heading towards Georgetown. The Police said the ten AK-47 weapons were found to the side of the roadway in Berbice wrapped up in different material.
The driver who was later arrested was charged today with unlawful possession of firearm. His name was given as Stephen Rajah of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara. He is 33 years old.
A police statement indicated that he was arrested last Friday in connection with the discovery of the ten AK-47 rifles.
During his appearance in Court today in New Amsterdam, he was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge. He was refused bail and will return to Court on June 15 for the continuation of the case.
Police investigators are following multiple leads in connection with the weapons and are trying to figure out their origin and the reason behind their importation and movement around the country.
The investigation highlights law enforcement’s continued efforts to combat illegal firearms trafficking and remove weapons of war from circulation on Guyanese streets.
