A 22-year-old Community Policing Group member lost his life Sunday evening after his motorcycle collided with a stationary vehicle on the Crabwood Creek road, Corentyne Berbice.

The deceased has been identified as Vinode Deo of Lot 126 Grant 1805, Crabwood Creek. He sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body in the crash and was taken to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Deo’s mother, Shavnie Motiram, told News Room that she had returned home from work at around 15:30hrs and tried calling her son, who was hanging out nearby, to come home. He assured her he would return — but never did. She received a devastating call about the accident at around 18:00hrs, and by the time she arrived at the hospital, her son had already passed away.
Motiram used the tragedy to speak out about the dangers posed by abandoned and derelict vehicles left along roadsides, pointing to the parked tapir her son collided with as a hazard that should not have been there.
“Is a old tapir. People should really move out them stuff like that. Sell out the old parts to the old iron company. The Government should look into that,” she said.
Deo was remembered by those who knew him as a cheerful and well-liked young man. He is survived by his parents, brother, relatives, and friends. The family is said to be having a difficult time coping with his sudden passing.
