A 23-year-old farmer has confessed to the brutal murder of seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed and the attack on his 72-year-old great-grandmother in Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.

Deputy Commissioner of Police and Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, confirmed the confession on Sunday, stating that the suspect was broken down by investigators who confronted him with “compelling digital evidence” placing him at the scene of the crime.
According to Crime Chief Blanhum, once faced with the evidence, the suspect admitted to entering the home and provided detectives with the gruesome details of the assault. Key evidence gathered by investigators includes:
Weapon Recovery: The suspect identified a knife recovered at the crime scene as the weapon used to carry out the fatal stabbing and the assault on the elderly woman.
Property and Clothing: Investigators recovered a pair of slippers and a music player from a nearby yard, which the suspect had allegedly entered earlier that morning before abandoning his attempt. The suspect identified these items as his own. Police have also seized the clothing he allegedly wore during the attack, which will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis.
Physical Evidence: The suspect’s employer informed police that the man reported to work the morning after the incident with a visible hand wound that was not present the day before. The suspect subsequently admitted to detectives that he sustained the injury while committing the attack.
The investigation into the tragic incident is ongoing as detectives continue to process the recovered forensic evidence. Police have indicated that further updates will be released as the case progresses toward the court.
