A fire believed to have been deliberately set destroyed a building at the East La Penitence Housing Sewage Compound early Wednesday morning.
The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) received reports of the blaze at 4:16 a.m. Although firefighters arrived promptly, the structure was already fully engulfed in flames by the time they reached the scene. The fire resulted in the total destruction of the building and all its contents.
According to the Guyana Fire Service, the incident is currently being treated as a fire deliberately set by the owner, who was reportedly smoking at the time of the blaze.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is currently ongoing.
