Two Georgetown men were remanded to prison on Friday after appearing before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court to answer to a joint charge of robbery under arms.

The defendants, 18-year-old Jaden Jackson of Tucville and 25-year-old Mark Major of Waterloo Street, were charged in connection with the robbery of a 20-year-old auto body technician. The incident occurred on the evening of June 29, 2026, at the Covent Garden New Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
According to police reports, the victim was walking east along the scheme at approximately 8:00 p.m. when he was approached from behind by the two suspects on a motorcycle. One of the men allegedly dismounted, brandished a handgun, and forcibly relieved the victim of his cellular phone before the pair fled the scene.
Both Jackson and Major entered pleas of not guilty to the indictable charge. They were subsequently remanded to prison, and the matter has been adjourned until July 17, 2026.
The police have confirmed that the stolen cellular phone was successfully recovered during their investigation, which led to the suspects’ swift arrest and subsequent arraignment.
