Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh announced that the government’s $100,000 national cash grant initiative has reached a significant milestone, with a total of 470,420 eligible Guyanese receiving their payments to date. This rollout represents a total injection of $47 billion directly into the hands of citizens.

The distribution has been executed in strategic phases to ensure reach across the nation’s diverse geography. According to the Minister, the program has utilized a dual-track approach:
Direct Bank Transfers: This remains the primary method for disbursement, facilitating swift and secure delivery to recipients.
Cheque Distribution: This method has been employed primarily for shut-ins, elderly citizens, and residents living in hinterland and other remote communities.
In an effort to further streamline the process, Dr. Singh announced that citizens now have the option to register for the grant via cheque through the government’s official online cash grant portal.
Once an individual successfully registers for a cheque online, they will receive notification regarding specific pickup details either directly through the portal or via a follow-up phone call.
While the government is facilitating multiple payment methods to ensure no eligible citizen is left out, Dr. Singh took the opportunity to encourage all Guyanese to consider opening bank accounts. He highlighted that moving toward formal banking not only ensures a safer and faster receipt of government grants but also provides citizens with more convenient, long-term access to modern financial services.
