Special Forces Battalion Claims Top Spot at Second Quarter Fitness Competition

The Second Quarter Force Quarterly Fitness Competition concluded today, with the 31 Special Forces Battalion securing first place among 12 male teams, reaffirming their reputation for exceptional performance and elite standards.

The 3 Infantry Battalion finished in second place, demonstrating impressive skills with only a 33-point difference from the winners. The Ensigns male team claimed third place, narrowly edging out the fourth position by just 2 points.

In the female category, the Ensigns team took first place, while the Base Camp Stephenson and Coast Guard teams finished in second and third, respectively.

This fierce yet friendly competition serves to test the soldiers’ battle readiness through a series of physical and mental exercises. The two-day event began with activities such as day shoot, rope climbing, navigation, first aid, swimming, and night shoot. Day two featured a five-mile run, memory test, obstacle course, falling plate shoot, and grenade throw. The performance in each event is used to evaluate the overall skill proficiency and battle readiness of the units.

Chief of Defence Staff (ag) Colonel Sheldon Howell, MSM, addressed the ranks, emphasizing that each Quarterly Fitness Competition replicates the foundation of military effectiveness, particularly in shooting, movement, endurance, and cohesion. He noted the evolving complexities of threats as the economy grows and highlighted the importance of strengthening the Force’s capabilities.

While praising the improvements seen in recent competitions, he encouraged all teams to strive for excellence. “Even as we compete and celebrate here, many of our brothers and sisters in arms are standing watch on our borders, quietly defending our sovereignty. We honor them by remaining fit, capable, and always ready to reinforce where needed,” he stated.
