Authorities have confirmed with deep sadness that the body of Captain Ryder Castillo has been located at the crash site of the Air Services Limited Cessna 208 aircraft in Region Eight, with all indications suggesting that death occurred instantly at the time of the accident.

In a statement, officials disclosed that the remains were found in an advanced state of decomposition. Based on the condition and position of the body at the time of discovery, it is believed the pilot did not survive the impact.

The extraction of the remains, however, presents significant challenges. The aircraft is located on a dangerously sloping ridge, and given both the terrain and the condition of the body, a detailed on-site assessment is currently being conducted by the GDF Special Forces team to determine the safest method of recovery.

Authorities confirmed that the team will make a determined and carefully planned effort at first light on Tuesday to recover the remains, with the objective of safely transporting the body to Imbaimadai — subject to prevailing conditions and strict safety considerations.

Several items were also recovered from the scene, including documents and personal effects belonging to the pilot, which will assist in the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Officials called for the privacy of Captain Castillo’s family to be respected as they grieve this profound loss.

“This is a profoundly difficult moment for the family, and we respectfully ask that their privacy be honored as they grieve,” the statement read.

Heartfelt condolences were extended to the family, loved ones, and all those affected by the tragedy. Authorities also took the opportunity to commend the men and women of the Guyana Defence Force and all supporting agencies for carrying out the operation with courage, professionalism, and discipline under extremely challenging conditions.
