Steve Ninvalle, Director of Sport, has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and the wider sporting community following the passing of Cecil Morris, a long-serving member and former President of the Guyana Blind Cricket Association (GBCA).

Morris is being remembered as a tireless advocate for persons with disabilities and a pivotal figure in the development of blind cricket in both Guyana and the Caribbean. In honor of his life and contributions, a Day of Reflection will be held on Monday, December 15, at the Society for the Blind on High Street from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This event will allow colleagues, athletes, administrators, and well-wishers to reflect on Morris’s enduring legacy and the significant impact of his work.

Ninvalle emphasized that the National Sports Commission (NSC) has long recognized Morris’s dedication to promoting blind cricket. He described Morris as a pioneer whose efforts transcended the boundaries of sport. “Cecil Morris was more than an administrator; he was a voice for inclusion and fairness,” Ninvalle stated. He highlighted Morris’s crucial role in strengthening local blind cricket and enhancing Guyana’s presence in the Caribbean blind cricket movement.

Beyond his administrative duties, Morris’s contributions influenced the broader national conversation on sports development. Ninvalle noted that his advocacy shaped more inclusive policies and attitudes within the sector. Remembering Morris as a catalyst for change, Ninvalle remarked that his legacy will continue to inspire both administrators and athletes to pursue equity, dignity, and opportunity in sport.
