President Dr. Irfaan Ali and Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar met on Friday and reached agreement on a comprehensive development, trade, and economic agenda aimed at significantly enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

According to a release from the Office of the President, the two leaders discussed a wide range of areas including food security and related investment opportunities, energy integration, technology exchange, human capital development, and security. Critically, both leaders agreed to establish a working group — inclusive of the private sectors of both countries — to identify and remove barriers to trade and competitiveness between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
Among the key outcomes of the engagement was an agreement for Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar to pay an official visit to Guyana, a development expected to further cement the growing relationship between the two nations. The working group is anticipated to play a central role in translating the leaders’ shared vision into concrete action, addressing both development challenges and opportunities on both sides.
President Ali also took the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar for her strong support of Guyana’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, expressing appreciation on behalf of the Guyanese people.
Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago have long maintained strong bilateral ties, with momentum for deeper regional collaboration growing in recent years. Trinidad and Tobago has increasingly looked to Guyana to help revitalise its energy sector, while both countries stand to benefit from closer cooperation across agriculture, trade, and human development.
