The new digital portal allows citizens to initiate the passport process from the comfort of their homes. By visiting the official Guyana Passport Appointment System, applicants can now:

Complete application forms online.

Upload all necessary documentation directly to the portal.

Schedule specific appointments for biometric enrollment at their preferred processing office.

Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, Senior Superintendent Stephen Telford, emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader mandate to improve efficiency. “What this allows you to do is to make an application for your passport from the comfort of your home,” Telford stated. “Persons have the opportunity to choose which office they want to visit and pick a specific time for their appointment, eliminating the need for long, unpredictable wait times.”

The department has also introduced several key updates to improve service nationwide:

Rapid Processing: An expedited passport system is now available, capable of issuing new passports in 24 hours or less.

Home-Service for Vulnerable Citizens: To support the elderly, bedridden, and differently-abled, the Passport Office has introduced a mobile unit capable of performing enrollment services directly at an applicant’s residence.

Decentralization: The office has expanded its reach through new regional offices and mobile units, ensuring that citizens in hinterland communities have better access to passport services without the need to travel to Georgetown.

Digital Travel Upgrades: The modernization efforts extend to travel, with the introduction of electronic embarkation and disembarkation forms and automated e-gates at ports of entry to streamline the arrival and departure process.

Senior Superintendent Telford noted that the recently introduced 10-year passport option has been exceptionally well-received by the public. While the digital system is now the preferred method, the Passport Office confirmed that in-person services remain available.

Citizens are reminded that the official government immigration portal is the only legitimate site for these services. Officials advise the public to avoid unauthorized third-party sites to ensure the security of their personal information.
