A 27-year-old construction worker, Jonathan David Gans, has been remanded to prison following his appearance at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on Monday, June 15, 2026.

Gans, a Venezuelan national residing at Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Rondell Weever to face two counts:
Possession of a firearm without a licence.
Possession of ammunition without a licence.
These charges are connected to a high-profile police investigation into the discovery of 23 AK-47 rifles at Schoonard, West Bank Demerara, on June 11, 2026.
During Monday’s hearing, the charges were read to Gans, who entered pleas of not guilty to both counts. Magistrate Weever denied bail, ordering that the defendant be remanded to prison. The matter has been adjourned to July 14, 2026, for further proceedings.
Gans’ arrest is part of a broader ongoing investigation into illegal arms trafficking. As reported previously, the discovery of the 23 rifles, which were allegedly found with obliterated serial numbers and a matching cache of ammunition, prompted a multi-agency search involving the Guyana Police Force and the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU). Another individual connected to the discovery, businessman Randy Jagdeo, surrendered to the police over the weekend and remains in custody.
