The murder of 20-year-old Shonette Dover was a case that drew significant public attention across Guyana. Between April 3 and April 30, 2021, Alleyne—then a barber in Linden—fatally shot Dover at his home in Canvas City. Following the killing, he buried her body on his property.

In the weeks that followed, Alleyne participated in the search for Dover, who had been reported missing. Her decomposed remains were discovered 28 days after the incident. Following the discovery, Alleyne fled to neighbouring Suriname, where he evaded capture for three years before being arrested and deported to Guyana to face the justice system.

Alleyne, who had been a fugitive since the crime, entered a guilty plea on June 2, 2026, admitting to the killing of Dover five years after the event. With the imposition of the 25-year sentence, the court has brought closure to one of the country’s most high-profile murder cases.
