A 33-year-old resident of Congress Drive, South Ruimveldt, appeared in the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges of robbery under arms.

The accused, identified as John Sampson, was charged under Section 222(c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. The charges stem from an incident on Thursday involving a 30-year-old housewife from Herstelling, East Bank Demerara.
According to police reports, the victim had just exited a supermarket when she was approached by two men traveling in a white motor car. One of the suspects, reportedly wielding a knife, exited the vehicle and threatened the woman, forcing her to surrender a yellow metal chain and a yellow metal ring. During the confrontation, the victim sustained injuries to one of her fingers.
Following the incident, the victim reported the matter to the police, who were able to track and intercept the suspects’ vehicle in Georgetown. Sampson was arrested at the scene, while authorities continue their search for the second accomplice.
Before Magistrate Dylon Bess on Friday, Sampson entered a plea of not guilty to the charge. He was granted $100,000 bail and is scheduled to return to court on July 30, 2026.
