A 42-year-old man was on Monday remanded to prison after appearing before Senior Magistrate Fabian Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on a nuisance charge.

Odell Griffith pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on April 27 at the Tucville Squatting Area, Georgetown, he operated a speaker in a manner that produced loud and continuous noise, causing a nuisance to Alonie Humphrey and other residents in the neighbourhood.
The court heard that this is not the first complaint involving the premises. The virtual complainant, Humphrey, told the court that a previous matter was brought on April 19, when Griffith’s partner had been charged in relation to similar allegations.
However, that matter did not proceed after the woman reportedly told the court she did not reside at the location but only visited.
Humphrey explained that the houses in the area are closely situated, and even moderate music can be heard loudly. She added that the issue was not only the volume but also the frequency and nature of the music, which she described as vulgar and often played late into the night.
She further alleged that despite previous police intervention, including the seizure of the sound system, the music continued. According to Humphrey, the equipment was returned, and the loud playing resumed shortly after.
The court also heard that on April 25, music was played from approximately 23:00 hours until after 03:00 hours.
Humphrey further claimed that Griffith had verbally abused her from his home.
When asked by the court if she wished to proceed with the matter, Humphrey said she simply wanted peace, noting that the situation had become “overbearing.”
Griffith told the court that he recently moved to the Tucville address and stated that he works with the Public Works Ministry, building roads. He claimed that his partner had gone to the police station to uplift the seized equipment but did not receive all its components.
The prosecution raised no objection to bail but suggested that the parties be advised to avoid each other and that the noise be reduced.
However, Magistrate Azore remanded Griffith to prison and adjourned the matter to May 11.
