Two motorists were convicted and fined on Tuesday for driving under the influence of alcohol, as the Guyana Police Force Traffic Department continues enforcement efforts against impaired driving.

He pleaded guilty and was fined $200,000 or alternatively three months’ imprisonment.
In a separate case on the same date, Compton Payne, a 22-year-old male of Lot 1873 Providence, East Bank Demerara, was charged by Sergeant Maesh of the Heroes Highway Police Outpost, Traffic Department.
Payne, the driver of motor car PXX 8826, also appeared before His Worship Mr. Dylon Bess at the same court, where he faced the identical charge of Driving a Motor Vehicle Whilst His Breath Alcohol Level Exceeded the Prescribed Limit.
Payne pleaded guilty and was fined $200,000.
The convictions are part of the traffic department’s continued enforcement against drunk driving, particularly as the nation grapples with rising fatal and serious road accidents. Both cases underscore the dangers of impaired driving and the legal consequences motorists face when operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.
