VPAC Guyana Demands Immediate Action Amidst Growing Corruption

In a powerful statement, VPAC Guyana has called for immediate action in response to a week marked by alarming revelations of chaos, corruption, and institutional collapse. The organization highlights a senior police officer, sanctioned by the United States for drug trafficking, as a stark example of the deep-seated issues plaguing the nation.

This officer’s involvement is linked to the notorious Matthews Ridge cocaine bust—recorded as the largest land-based narcotics seizure in Guyana’s history, where over 9,700 pounds of cocaine were discovered near an illegal airstrip. The fact that someone once entrusted with national security has been implicated raises serious questions about the integrity of law enforcement.

VPAC challenges the public to consider: how deeply entrenched is the corruption when those meant to uphold the law become its violators?

Compounding these concerns, reports have emerged of a police officer being reassigned to remote duty simply for greeting opposition figure Azruddin Mohamed. This incident illustrates a regime prioritizing political loyalty over accountability.

Meanwhile, the government continues to borrow millions from international banks, even as the country benefits from oil wealth. The question remains: where is this money actually going?

“This is not governance; this is decay,” VPAC asserts, noting the shifting political landscape and increasing defections that indicate a growing crisis. Guyana’s institutions seem to be buckling under the weight of corruption and incompetence.

In response, VPAC is demanding a full independent investigation into the Matthews Ridge drug conspiracy, with no exceptions made for those in power. They are also calling for urgent reforms to eliminate criminality within the upper echelons of the police and military, alongside the implementation of whistleblower protections to encourage transparency and accountability.

“The future of this nation is being hijacked in plain sight,” VPAC warns. “We will not stand by quietly.” The organization stands firm in its commitment to hold leaders accountable and protect the interests of the people.
