Businessman Randy Jagdeo surrendered to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Sunday, June 14, 2026, following the issuance of a wanted bulletin in connection with the seizure of 23 AK-47 assault rifles at Schoonard, West Bank Demerara, last Thursday.

Crime Chief and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Wendell Blanhum, confirmed that Jagdeo, 40, turned himself in at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters accompanied by his attorney. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The seizure, a joint operation between the GPF and the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), also resulted in the arrest of a 28-year-old Venezuelan national, Jonathan Gans of Grove, East Bank Demerara. Authorities are still actively seeking Orlando Gabriel, who is also wanted in relation to the same case.
According to officials, the rifles were manufactured in the United States. While one weapon had its serial number intact, the serial numbers on the other 22 rifles had been obliterated. Alongside the firearms, authorities recovered over 500 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition.
This discovery marks the second significant cache of AK-47 rifles uncovered in Guyana within 21 days. The first incident occurred on May 22, 2026, in Berbice, where ten rifles were seized. Three individuals are currently before the courts in connection with that case.
Randy Jagdeo has previously been the subject of law enforcement scrutiny. In May 2025, he faced charges for inciting persons to commit treason after allegedly making comments on social media and displaying signage at his business that questioned Guyana’s sovereignty over the Essequibo region. Additionally, he was charged with murder in 2013 but was acquitted in 2014 after prosecutors were unable to establish sufficient evidence due to the failure of key witnesses to appear in court.
