The Government of Guyana, through the Ministry of Housing, has escalated its efforts to locate housing contractor Omar Malik of the firm DreamVu Homes, who is accused of defrauding numerous young professionals of millions of dollars. The Ministry has officially enlisted the assistance of international law enforcement agencies, including Interpol, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and CARICOM IMPACS, to track down the contractor following his disappearance.
The investigation centers on a government-approved housing initiative for young professionals. Malik was contracted to build dozens of homes; however, after receiving significant advance payments—often facilitated through local banks and mortgage plans—many of these homes were left incomplete, and construction never commenced on others. Following these failures, Malik reportedly fled the jurisdiction.
The Ministry of Housing has stated that it began taking formal action as early as mid-2025 as complaints regarding the contractor began to mount. The government’s approach includes:

The situation has placed a severe financial burden on the affected young professionals, many of whom are currently burdened with mortgage payments for properties that remain unfinished or unstarted. The Ministry has cautioned against politicizing the matter, emphasizing that its primary focus remains on facilitating resolutions for those facing significant financial and personal distress.
