Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, visited the community of Zeelugt New Housing Scheme today to offer her personal condolences and the government’s full support to the family of seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed, who was tragically killed during a home invasion on Friday morning.

During her visit, Dr. Persaud met with the victim’s relatives and local residents, describing the incident as a “gruesome tragedy” that has left the entire nation reeling.
“What is of concern is that this happened and it shouldn’t have happened… Whoever did this is monstrous,” Minister Persaud stated. She emphasized that the attack, which also left the boy’s 72-year-old great-grandmother hospitalized with serious injuries, represents a profound violation of the safety and security every family deserves.
The Minister outlined several immediate steps being taken to assist those impacted by the tragedy:
Child Care and Protection: The Child Care and Protection Agency has been deployed to provide grief counseling and support to Adriel’s sibling and other children in the community who have been affected by the violence.
Addressing Local Concerns: Following direct discussions with residents, Minister Persaud confirmed that she has already initiated action on specific concerns raised regarding community security and safety, with measures set to be implemented “first thing in the morning.”
Unconditional Commitment: Reaffirming the administration’s stance, Dr. Persaud stated, “Our support is unconditional for this family and we will not in any way be separate from this incident because we care and what has happened here demands our unconditional support.”
As the Guyana Police Force continues its active pursuit of the suspect, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security remains closely engaged with the family to ensure they receive the necessary resources as they navigate the aftermath of this devastating loss.
