President Irfaan Ali has expressed his deep sorrow over the death of Don Singh, a prominent figure in civic life and a former Councillor of the Georgetown City Council.

In a heartfelt tribute, President Ali praised Singh for his unique approach to public service, noting that while he hailed from a family with a deep-rooted history in Guyana’s legal and political spheres, he carved out a reputation that was entirely his own.
The President highlighted Singh’s vibrant personality, describing him as a man who brought both energy and a necessary bluntness to his municipal duties.
“He could be excessively witty but also brutally frank. That candidness gave voice to concerns in a direct and unvarnished manner, reminding all that municipal politics exists to respond to real, everyday problems,” President Ali wrote.
Beyond his political work, the President emphasized Singh’s human qualities, noting that his public engagements were marked by genuine warmth and a clear commitment to the welfare of his fellow citizens. President Ali remarked that while Singh’s life was cut short—robbing him of the opportunity to make even greater contributions to national life—his “infectious spirit” would remain a lasting memory for those who knew him.
The President concluded his message by extending his sincere condolences to Singh’s family, friends, and the many others mourning his loss.
